KPV (Lys-Pro-Val) is a naturally occurring tripeptide fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) with documented anti-inflammatory activity in preclinical models. KPV inhibits NF-kappaB activation and downregulates pro-inflammatory cytokine production including TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and IL-6 in cell culture studies. Research applications include inflammatory bowel disease models, wound healing, and intestinal barrier function studies. KPV is removed from FDA Category 2 restriction (April 2026) with PCAC review scheduled. The short tripeptide sequence requires specialized analytical methods for purity assessment as standard HPLC methods may not adequately resolve small peptide fragments from buffer components.
